Pilot of a person-centred, interdisciplinary approach to goal setting in Ireland’s National Rehabilitation Hospital: a study protocol

Background: Research has emphasized the value of a person-centered, interdisciplinary approach to structured goal setting in rehabilitation; yet these approaches are not consistently implemented clinical practice, limiting effect that can have on rehabilitation. The introduction new interdisciplinary, person-centered process Ireland’s national rehabilitation hospital offers an opportunity gain novel insight into barriers implementing and normalising IDT complex, specialist services. Methods: The was collaboratively designed based iterative rounds patient staff feedback. It will be piloted three different units hospital. outlined study co-designed by embedded academic researchers knowledge stakeholders (the quality improvement team responsible for introducing process; two former patients). aim is use mixed methods capture experiences perspectives process. Data collected with combination self-report measures qualitative interviews both patients. Self-report focus capturing person centeredness goals, shared decision making, interprofessional socialization normalization. Quantitative data represented using descriptive inferential statistics; analysed reflexive thematic analysis.
